Dynamic Column X-ray

Dynamic spinal x-rays are a special imaging technique that captures images of the spine while the patient moves in different positions. This radiographic technique is essential to evaluate the functionality and mobility of the spine and to detect possible anomalies that only appear when the spine is in motion or under load.

What are X-rays?

X-rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation that can pass through soft tissues and be absorbed by denser tissues, such as bones. As they pass through the body and are captured on film or sensor, they produce images that show the internal structure of the area being examined.

Applications of Dynamic Column X-Rays

This technique is crucial for:

  • Mobility evaluation: Determine the range of motion and functionality of the spine.
  • Detection of instabilities: Identify areas of the spine that may have abnormal movements.
  • Postoperative evaluation: Verify the success of surgical interventions and the correct positioning of implants.
  • Identification of pathologies: Detect conditions that only become evident when the spine is in motion, such as spinal slippage (spondylolisthesis).
  • Pain assessment: Locate problem areas that could be the cause of pain when moving.

Benefits of Dynamic Spine X-Rays

  • Functional: Evaluates the spine in active conditions, reflecting its real functioning.
  • Non-invasive: It does not require incisions or invasive procedures.
  • Fast: Provides results in real time.
  • Accurate: It offers a clear visualization of the structure and mobility of the spine.

Conclusion

The dynamic spine X-ray study is an essential diagnostic tool for orthopedic and traumatology specialists. It allows a functional and detailed evaluation of the spine, ensuring an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatments for the patient's well-being.
