What is a chest X-ray and what is it used for?
Chest x-ray (CXR) is an imaging study that uses a minimal amount of radiation to obtain images of the heart, lungs, blood vessels, ribs, and diaphragm.
It is the first-line study to evaluate infections (such as pneumonia), pleural fluid, rib fractures, changes due to asthma/COPD, heart growth, and preoperative evaluations.
When might it be necessary?
Persistent cough, fever, or difficulty breathing
Suspected pneumonia, COVID, tuberculosis, or other infections.
